"From the desk of Fred Raby"

The only thing constant in life is change!   We were scheduled to fish Cooters Pond this month, however they had over 10 inches of rain Wednesday…Andy went up Thursday morning and was flooded in the parking lot!  After much research, talking with locals and people living on the water Mack called an E-board meeting and the tournament site was changed to Lay Lake due to the flooded conditions and possibility of more flooding.

Most everyone went up Friday to prefish.  As I launched I noticed Chris limping in with Richie following.  Chris broke a hose on his bilge and was taking on water; he repaired that and got back on the water.  Artie and I found some fish early…I had a 5.13 pound largemouth on the 3rd cast! (kiss of death).   We fished several spots and found fish on everyone.  We came off the water around noon and had boated over 16 bass on abo9ut as many spots.  Talk around the motel was that everyone had had a pretty good day on Friday.

Tournament day, launching went smooth and we beat most other tournaments on the water.  Dave brought a ‘ringer’, Pete Potter who informed him after reaching his first spot that there was a large amount of water in the floor…I guess Dave couldn’t wait to join the growing list of Hammer Nominees…he forgot the plug, so they had to go back to the landing.

Reports on the water were many members were having a pretty good day.  My fish were still there, in spite of the competition, however my luck had changed.  I lost four fish and was only able to weigh in 5.  Fish were caught on buzz baits, spinnerbiats, frogs, and naturally shakey heads and a few on cranks.

At the weigh in Bobby started things out right by drawing the orange ball…good job Bobby.  There were plenty of fish, and everyone had fish to weigh, always a sign of a good trip.  Total fish 121 for 214.44 pounds, and nine 7 fish limits, another good tournament.  Big Rich finished 3rd with 7 fish weighting 16.12 pounds, Mack was second with 7 weighing 16.92 and Richie found his way back to the top with 7 weighing 20.62 and 5.03 lunker.  Richie fished a frog and spinnerbait.  Congratulations to all who caught fish.  Good to see our guests come out to enjoy our trip.

Keep your line wet!
