Holly Creek Landing, Alabama River was our July tournament.  We had 19 boats, 20 members and 3 guests brave enough to try the heat…and boy was it HOT!!!

When we arrived two other clubs showed up right behind us, one inconsiderate enough to blast off in Holly creek and run through our club swamping Andy and a couple of others.  Mack announced “we have a new Cliffie”, as Jim Bell left his live well pumps on and filled the bilge with water.

On to the river.  Artie and I stopped to work a Ray Heitland hole first thing.  As short time later we saw Andy and Big Rich abandoning their first spot and heading up the river.  We moved on to an old favorite of mine and Artie boated one a few minutes later I followed with my first.  Reports from John B and Walter both still looking.  By now the sun was up and the heat was on.  Mack stopped and told us his woes, he lost 3 fish and a favorite crank bait to a Grinnell.  By 12:30 some were already headed to find shade or AC.

Finally weigh in time arrived.  Only 15 members and 2 guests caught fish.  Andy, however did provide some good entertainment. He pumped out his livewell to his weigh bag and headed to the scales.  He presented his water and water bottle to Mack to weigh…oh, forgot his fish, they are still in the dry well in his boat at the other end of the parking lot, he rushed back and found his 1 fish and just made it back before Mack closed the scales.  I guess that is a first, and probably hands down a HAMMER!

Oh, yeah back to fishing.  Wayne took 3rd place with 6 fish 9.71, Bobby 2nd the only 7 fish limit 11.35 and Big Rich took top honors with 6 fish weighing 12.31.  that makes year to date standings take a big turn with 3 months to go anything can happen .

Did I mention we all need to thank Billy for placing this one on the schedule.  It was hot, hot and hot and the bite was slow, slow, slow.

One other thing, thanks Mack for helping Sarge when his brakes locked up on the way home.  It is good to travel as a group so help is available if needed.
